Dispelling the top 5 myths about Dunedin
There are a number of nasty untruths that put people off visiting this great little city. I would like to dispel the most common misperceptions I hear about my home town here and now.

1. It’s cold in Dunedin. It’s really not that bad.  Christmas day 2009 saw the mercury rise to 34 degrees and today as I write this article Dunedin has the national high of 29 degrees.   Uni students need to stop being so tight, pay to heat their flats and stop spreading this vicious lie. If you’re looking for a cold city look no further than Wellington

2. Dunedin is a bogan city. Its not nor are its inhabitants or people like myself who were born there. That honour rests with the neighbouring town of Gore.

Summers Coming!

The best season of the year is nearly upon us in the Southern hemisphere – Summer. Anyone who says they don’t like Summer is just plain weird in my book. There are so many reasons to love this time of the year, the fact that it coincides with Christmas, New Years and a lot of long weekends is an added bonus. Here’s the highlights of Summer:

  • Sun which usually brings warm weather (except if you live in Dunedin)
  • Swimming at the Beach
  • Camping at Tawhanui and other awesome National Parks / Beaches
  • BBQ’s
  • Drinking G & T’s in the sun
  • Rose again best consumed in the sun
  • Festivals
  • Outdoor cinemas
  • Jandels
  • Not having to wear heaps of clothes to work
  • Socialising
  • Summer fruits
  • Pimms
  • Holidays
  • Christmas and New Years

People I’ve Lived With

The other day after I shifted flats, yet again, I thought about how I feel like I’m always moving. So I decided to make a list of all the people I’ve lived with over the years. Here it is:

  • A not so nice girl who stole from the flat account, stole the bond and eventually got evicted. We nicknamed her trailer trash.
  • My best friend
  • A girl from Kurow who liked to listen to depressing music on a Sunday morning
  • Three girls from Timaru
  • A girl from Rakaia
  • A cow girl / nurse  who moved out after a few months due to us being noisy and inconsiderate
  • A girl from Ashburton
  • A girl from Oamaru
  • A token guy who moved into a flat of 5 girls
  • A Wellingtonian
  • A girl from Alexandra (she was Masha, I was Dasha)
  • An annoying old man
  • A nice Aucklander
  • 5 guys – this was a party flat
  • A girl who used to knit baby clothes even though she wasn’t pregnant
  • The above girls annoying boyfriend
  • One of my good friends who I went to London with – infact we’ve loved together in a few places
  • A girl who I don’t think I spoke to more than 5 times
  • Two guys from Dunedin, both in London, both I didn’t know until I moved to London
  • A girl and guy (couple) from Wellington in London who introduced me to some of my closest friends today.
  • There is so many more but I think I’m probably boring you all now!

Stuff I Love

Here’s a list of some random stuff I love.  Don’t judge me. I’m being completely honest here (well almost!). And I’m sure you’ll agree with some of them and also think I’m possibly a bit weird.  Here go’s (in no particular order):

  • My iPod – there’s a fairly random collection of songs on it. When I’m downloading them I like them all but when it comes to listening to them I usually only listen to every tenth one.
  • New Zealand
  • The movie Annie
